Alopecia & Homeopathy / Hair Fall & Homeopathy

What is Alopecia Areata?

Alopecia means loss of hair; alopecia areata refers to a skin disease where hair fall out in patches. It may occur in any hairy region of the body, such as scalp, chest, beard, eye-brow, pubis etc.

Other varieties of alopecia are alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis. Alopecia totalis means loss of total hair from scalp and alopecia universalis means loss of all hair from the body.

  What is the cause of Alopecia Areata?

  Alopecia areata is neither an infective nor a contagious disease. In fact, it is  an auto-immune disease where body’s own immune system attacks body’s hair-follicle destroying the latter.

Researchers say that genetic make-up of the patient and other factors are responsible for this altered immune reaction.

What are the signs and symptoms of Alopecia Areata?

1)Patchy hair loss from hairy parts of the body;

2)Bunches of hair are visible on pillows or while in shower;

3)Hair loss may increase to alopecia totalis or alopecia unversalis;

4)Finger nails get pitted; white spots are visible; nails lose their glossy appearance and turns rough, thin and split;

5)Very often, nails symptoms precede actual hair-fall;

Next Review: after one month;

Follow up :

The patient was subsequently treated with Nat.mur 50M and CM  for about 6months when the disease was almost gone.

How can Alopecia Areata be prevented?

Since this is a kind of auto-immune disease, its prevention is difficult. However, following points may be taken not of :

1)Keeping the scalp healthy by proper use of soap, washing and other healthy measures regularly must be practised.

2)Preserve natural body immunity; take enough of veg. and fruits rich with vitamin-C.

3)Do not practice bath in water having temperature more than body-temperature(BT). It is the best practice to use normal water for bath. If you want a warm water to bath, for some reason, never warm it more than BT, keep slightly less than BT; otherwise, your immune power will decrease.
